Here are some of my written notes of 78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene these were taken during my second viewing of the documentary. This way of note taking involves lots of pausing and un-pausing of the film, this is why these are from my second viewing. The first time threw I watch it for the flow and to understand the story (yes, even docs have stories). The second time threw I am watching for the facts and quotes I would like to use, in this case for a close analysis. I always have the subtitles on, for a couple reasons, first being it can tell you who is speaking, second it is very helpful when trying to get exact quotes. Another piece of advise I can give you is take your time, the film isn't going anywhere so make sure you are digesting every word, especially with documentaries. And with that here are some of my notes, you will notice my hand writing is far from perfect that is because they are MY notes no one has to understand them but me, I have my own symbols that mean things to me that will look like scribbles of an insane person to you. I would like to tell you that I have a key for all of them, but I don't. I have been taking notes for live theatre, film and literature for years so I have all of them memorized, I highly recommend you find your own symbols that help you with writing quickly and that convey what they need to convey.
