A Trip to the Moon is a 1902 French adventure film directed by Georges Méliès. This film was very interesting to watch, the creators have the most basic technology and they make a very captivating story. It is mind-boggling to think about the hours that went into painting on every slide to get the slightest bit of color, making the world of the story that much more real and believable. The story itself is also very fascinating from the point of view of an outsider of the time. The story has a very strong view of colonialism, with the very aggressive behavior of the travelers against the aliens and the celebration of their return with a badly treated captive. The satire of the film comes at an interesting point in time in the French timeline. The Entente Cordiale was signed just a few years after the film was released, and this agreement focused greatly on imperial issues. So I am sure in the years this film was being created the conversation of the agreement was present and the issues the Entente Cordiale were addressing were most likely a hot-button topic.
